Supplementary School Coordinator – Job Description
Position Title: Supplementary School Coordinator
Reports To: Trustees
Working Days and Hours: Saturday/Sunday – 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Weekdays: Meetings and other tasks as required
Position Description:
The Supplementary School Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all educational and cultural programs at Spring Educational Society’s Supplementary School. Working closely with volunteer teachers and mentors, the Coordinator ensures a safe, engaging, and culturally enriching environment that promotes students’ learning of the Turkish language, moral values, and heritage.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Educational Program Management
– Plan and organize Turkish language, Values Education, Islamic Lessons, and Activity classes (Sports, Theatre, Choir, Turkish Folklore, Arts & Crafts).
– Prepare weekly lesson schedules and activity timelines.
– Ensure that classrooms, materials, and resources are ready for each session.
– Supervise the smooth and timely delivery of all lessons and activities.
2. Volunteer Teacher and Mentor Coordination
– Organize and communicate with volunteer teachers and mentors.
– Assign teaching and mentoring duties; track attendance and engagement.
– Support collaboration and motivation among the volunteer team.
– Conduct orientation sessions for new volunteers.
3. Student and Parent Communication
– Monitor student attendance and participation.
– Communicate regularly with parents about programs, activities, and student progress.
– Encourage students to actively use Turkish and engage with their cultural roots.
4. Cultural and Social Activities
– Oversee and coordinate extracurricular programs such as sports, theatre, choir, folklore, and crafts.
– Organize special events celebrating national and cultural holidays (e.g., April 23rd, Mother’s Day)
– Support student performances, exhibitions, and year-end showcases.
5. Administrative and Operational Responsibilities
– Manage school opening and closing routines each Saturday.
– Ensure a clean, organized, and safe learning environment.
– Maintain basic records and provide brief activity reports to the management team.
– Make sure the Supplementary School operations adhere to all relevant regulations and statutory requirements (DBS, Safeguarding, etc).
Qualifications:
– Experience in education, youth programs, or community engagement.
– Strong communication and organizational skills.
– Understanding of legal duties and requirements for operating a supplementary school within the UK educational framework.
– Passion for working with children and supporting cultural education.
– Commitment to volunteer teamwork, Turkish cultural values and moral education.
– Native fluency in Turkish, good command of English, beginner level in Arabic.
– Availability to work on Saturdays (9:00–15:00).
